Eleanor (Ellie) Canegali Duncan

Eleanor (Ellie) Cane­gali Dun­can, 86, of Blue Ridge (for­merly of Delaware) passed away Tues­day (June 5, 2012) and is now rest­ing peacefully.

Ellie loved her fam­ily more than life itself. Her other loves were foot­ball games, music and scratch-off lot­tery tick­ets. She stated numer­ous times how thank­ful she was to God for allow­ing her to spend one more day with her five chil­dren and for the chance to see one more foot­ball game. Ellie was a grad­u­ate of the Colum­bus School of Prac­ti­cal Nurs­ing. She served in the emer­gency room at the Jane M. Case Hos­pi­tal, later spe­cial­iz­ing and mov­ing to the Car­diac Care Unit. She was one of the orig­i­nal nurses to help set up and serve in the Inten­sive Care Unit.

Sur­viv­ing are her chil­dren, Scott (Carol) Dun­can, David (Bar­bara) Dun­can, Teresa (Tony) Dav­en­port, Bob Dun­can and Becky Dun­can; 10 grand­chil­dren; 25 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren.

She was pre­ceded in death by her hus­band, Jef­fer­son F. Dun­can; brother, Robert Cane­gali; and par­ents, Harry and Mar­jorie Thatcher Canegali.

A cel­e­bra­tion of Ellie’s life will be held at 6 p.m. Mon­day, June 18, at St. Tim­o­thy Evan­gel­i­cal Lutheran Church 1204 Hardy Road Vin­ton, Va. The Rev. Troy Mays will offi­ci­ate. The fam­ily will receive friends fol­low­ing the service.

A very spe­cial thanks to the Ame­d­y­sis Hos­pice Team and to Dody Raplee, FNP at Lewis Gale for the excel­lent care they pro­vided dur­ing Ellie’s ill­ness. Arrange­ments are by Simp­son Funeral Home.
