Betty A. Brown
Betty A. Brown, 87, of Delaware passed away Tuesday (July 17, 2012) at the Centrum of Willow Brook Christian Village in Delaware.
She was born on Nov. 5, 1924, in Cincinnati to the late Arthur and Bessie (Bangs) Ulmer. A graduate of Withrow High School 1943, she then worked in the promotional department at WLW and WSAI radio stations in Cincinnati. She met her husband-to-be, John H. Brown, while attending Ohio Wesleyan University. They were married on Sept. 6, 1947, in Madisonville. Even though she never graduated from Ohio Wesleyan, she was considered a member of the Class of 1949.
Betty and John were married for 55 wonderful years until his passing in 2002 and for 49 years they made their home on North Franklin Street in Delaware. She retired as the secretary to the superintendent of the Delaware City Schools and had been a faithful member of William Street United Methodist Church since 1949. A member of the Progressive Mothers’ Club and Support for Talented Students, she was also a member of the Secretary’s Association, the predecessor to the IAPP.
Betty enjoyed a passion for gardening, especially her rose beds, and golfing. She loved finding, refinishing and restoring antique furniture. But her primary interests were that of her family.
She leaves a legacy of love for her surviving children, daughter, Lauren (Joel) Schaefer of Delaware; sons, Jim Brown of Columbus, Jay (Julie) Brown of Eureka, Mo., and Jeff Brown (Katherine Sill) of Minneapolis, Minn.; treasured grandchildren, Justin, Mark (Jennifer) and Jennifer Schaefer (fiancé Myles Vander Weele) and Kelsey, McKenna, William and Anneke Brown; faithful brothers and sister, Samuel (Nancy) Ulmer of Cincinnati, David (Joan) Ulmer of Maineville, Bill (Mildred) Ulmer of Jacksboro, Tenn., and Shirley Ulmer-Rodrigues of Bend, Oregon.
She was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Barbara Ann.
Friends called from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William Street, Delaware. Burial services will be observed privately by her family at Oak Grove Cemetery. The family will also greet visitors from 1 to 2 p.m. today, Saturday, at William Street United Methodist Church, 28 W. William St., Delaware, with a memorial service to begin at 2 p.m. at William Street United Methodist Church officiated by the Rev. Julie Carmean. The family will then receive friends in the church parlor following the service for light refreshments and fellowship.
Memorial contributions can be made to William Street United Methodist Church, Support for Talented Students, 5100 Lakeview Dr., Powell, OH 43065, or Willow Brook Christian Village, 100 Willow Brook Way S., Delaware, OH 43015.

Our deepest sympathy to your family. Grandma BB will always with us. We extremely enjoyed having the opportunity to have the best neighbor anyone could have! All the talks about how proud she was of her family. You are so blessed to have a beautiful angel watching from above. We love you Betty!
My deepest sympathies to your family. She was a wonderful lady and I enjoyed the time I had with her (our manicures, ice cream, basketball games and Long talks were the highlight of my evenings!)
