Donald F. Johns

Donald F. Johns, 76, of Delaware passed away Saturday morning (July 7, 2012) at Grady Memorial Hospital.

He was born on June 18, 1936, in Delaware to the late Bernard and Julia (Abrams) Johns. A graduate of Willis High School in 1954, he also served in the U.S. Army Reserves. He worked as a mechanic at Keefer’s Chevrolet, Gene David Buick, Nestlé’s in Sunbury and retired as terminal supervisor for PPG in Delaware.

Attending the Delaware Bible Church, he was not only a servant to God, but also to his community. He was always willing to lend a helping hand. An outdoorsman at heart, he enjoyed camping, boating and fishing for walleye on the waters of Lake Erie. He favored tractors of all types, especially Internationals. Considered a problem solver, he had a special knack for figuring out how to fix things, specifically those mechanical in nature. He will be remembered for his helping hands and time spent with his treasured grandchildren.

He is survived by his main interest and beloved wife of 54 years, Judy (Burwell); sons, Greg (Patty) Johns of Marietta, Ga., and Steve (Lori) Johns of Delaware; grandchildren, Andrew, Joshua, Zachary and Benjamin; sister, Judy (Frank) Dolfinger of Delaware; and brother, Jack (Linda) Johns of Delaware.

He was also preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Garrison.
