Helen Brown-Deerhake
Helen Brown-Deerhake, 87, of Wapakoneta, died at 10:17 p.m. Friday (July 20, 2012) at St. Rita’s Hospital, Lima.
She was born Feb. 24, 1925, in Jennings Township in Putnam County, to Carl E. and Olga (Wreede) Kloeppel. On Nov. 24, 1946, she married Jacque Brown, who died June 3, 1981. On May 12, 1983, she married Louis Deerhake, who died June 2, 1990. Helen was a 1943 graduate of Ft. Jennings High School and was a member of First English Lutheran Church, Wapakoneta, where she served in numerous capacities over the years including church council and was currently on the visitation team for shut-ins. She was employed at Brown’s Restaurant for many years. She was a member of the Woman’s Club and enjoyed playing in card clubs with her friends. Known for her homemade pies, she was always happy when cooking and baking for family and friends.
Survivors include daughter, Pamela (John) Carpenter of Birmingham, Ala.; son, David (Julie) Brown of Powell; son, Kevin (Wendy) Brown of Delaware; and seven grandchildren, Alison (Matt) Hall of Bluffton, S.C., Heidi Brown of Columbus, Matthew Brown of Delaware, Amanda Carpenter of Birmingham, Ala., Erin Carpenter of Birmingham, Ala., Tasker Brown of Powell and Delaney Brown of Powell; one great-grandchild, Kennedy Hall of Bluffton, S.C.; sister-in-law, Janet Brown of Columbus; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceding her in death along with her parents and husbands is a brother, Howard, and sister-in-law, Rita Kloeppel.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 31, at First English Lutheran Church, Wapakoneta, with the Rev. Steven Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenlawn Cemetery, Wapakoneta. Friends may visit with the family from 5 to 8 p.m., Monday, July 30, at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, Ohio 501, Wapakoneta, and one hour prior to the service Tuesday at the church.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First English Lutheran Church.
