Helen Brown-Deerhake

Helen Brown-Deerhake, 87, of Wapakoneta, died at 10:17 p.m. Fri­day (July 20, 2012) at St. Rita’s Hos­pi­tal, Lima.

She was born Feb. 24, 1925, in Jen­nings Town­ship in Put­nam County, to Carl E. and Olga (Wreede) Kloep­pel. On Nov. 24, 1946, she mar­ried Jacque Brown, who died June 3, 1981. On May 12, 1983, she mar­ried Louis Deer­hake, who died June 2, 1990. Helen was a 1943 grad­u­ate of Ft. Jen­nings High School and was a mem­ber of First Eng­lish Lutheran Church, Wapakoneta, where she served in numer­ous capac­i­ties over the years includ­ing church coun­cil and was cur­rently on the vis­i­ta­tion team for shut-ins. She was employed at Brown’s Restau­rant for many years. She was a mem­ber of the Woman’s Club and enjoyed play­ing in card clubs with her friends. Known for her home­made pies, she was always happy when cook­ing and bak­ing for fam­ily and friends.

Sur­vivors include daugh­ter, Pamela (John) Car­pen­ter of Birm­ing­ham, Ala.; son, David (Julie) Brown of Pow­ell; son, Kevin (Wendy) Brown of Delaware; and seven grand­chil­dren, Ali­son (Matt) Hall of Bluffton, S.C., Heidi Brown of Colum­bus, Matthew Brown of Delaware, Amanda Car­pen­ter of Birm­ing­ham, Ala., Erin Car­pen­ter of Birm­ing­ham, Ala., Tasker Brown of Pow­ell and Delaney Brown of Pow­ell; one great-grandchild, Kennedy Hall of Bluffton, S.C.; sister-in-law, Janet Brown of Colum­bus; and numer­ous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Pre­ced­ing her in death along with her par­ents and hus­bands is a brother, Howard, and sister-in-law, Rita Kloeppel.

Funeral ser­vices will be 10:30 a.m. Tues­day, July 31, at First Eng­lish Lutheran Church, Wapakoneta, with the Rev. Steven Nel­son offi­ci­at­ing. Bur­ial will fol­low in the Green­lawn Ceme­tery, Wapakoneta. Friends may visit with the fam­ily from 5 to 8 p.m., Mon­day, July 30, at the Bayliff & Eley Funeral Home, Ohio 501, Wapakoneta, and one hour prior to the ser­vice Tues­day at the church.

In lieu of flow­ers, memo­ri­als may be made to First Eng­lish Lutheran Church.
