Virginia M. Ballard

Virginia M. Ballard, 72, of Delaware passed away suddenly Friday (July 6, 2012) at Wintersong Nursing Home.

Born on June 8, 1940, in Walkertown, W.Va., to the late Donald and Lou (Day) Franklin, she had been a lifelong resident of the Delaware area. Prior to retirement she worked as a cook and aide with the former Jane Case Hospital, Grady Memorial Hospital and most recently with Sarah Moore Home Health Care Center. She enjoyed the surroundings of her country home and reading romance novels. A fan of the FoodNetwork, she loved to cook and her fried chicken will long be remembered. She was a loving wife and mother, who treasured spending time with her grandchildren.

Virginia is survived by her husband of 51 years, John W. “Jack” Ballard; son, Gary (Tawnya) Ballard of Delaware; grandchildren, Jeffery Emmel, Blake Ballard and Olivia Ballard; and sisters, Polly Viars and Judy Charles.

She was preceded in death by son, Michael W. Ballard in 2011; brothers, Sherman Franklin and Donald “PeeWee” Franklin; and infant brother, Michael.

There are no services planned currently; arrangements have been entrusted to the Snyder Rodman Funeral Center. Inurnment will follow at a later date in Oak Grove Cemetery.

Memorial contributions can be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
