Eleanor Keener, 90, formerly of Marengo, died Saturday afternoon (Aug. 18, 2012) at Countryview of Sunbury.
She was born Jan. 1, 1922, in Fayette County, to the late Elden and Inez (Cook) Whiteside. She was retired from the State of Ohio, a member of Marengo United Methodist Church and a 70-year member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #146. Eleanor kept herself busy after retirement by being involved with senior activities. Eleanor was the president of the Marengo Senior Citizens, a member for 22 years, on the Board of Directors for the Morrow County Senior Citizens, involved with the Red Hat Ladies and helping with anything at the senior centers, meals, table decorations and looking for volunteers.
She is survived by her daughter, Judith Ann Pyles Neubig of Sunbury; grandchildren, Jeffrey (Lisa) Pyles of Westerville, Sara (Arjun) Nagra of Sunbury, Gregory Pyles of New Albany; great-grandchildren, Aiden, Owen, Gavin, Avery; brother, Thomas Whiteside of Mount Sterling; sister, Aileen Gerard of Jamestown.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Keener, in May 1989; brothers, Richard, Max; sisters, Mary Louise Booco, Janet Harkins.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at 61, Sunbury, and two hours prior to the 2 p.m. service on Tuesday. Interment will follow in the Sunbury Memorial Park.
