Jonnie M. Zimmerman
Jonnie M. Zimmerman (nee Barrett), 72, formerly of Lorain, passed away from cancer on Saturday (Aug. 4, 2012) in Delaware.
She was born on July 29, 1939, to the late Richard and Caralena Barrett. Jonnie was a registered nurse who worked in her profession for 44 years. She loved her time as a public health nurse and the many years she worked as a maternity nurse at St. Joseph Hospital in Lorain.
Jonnie grew up in Huntington, W. Va., with her brother Roger and sister Joan. Moving to Gallipolis to study nursing, she met her husband Don while there. They were married in 1960. In marrying
Don, she married into the US Navy; she and Don were honored to serve in their professional capacities
in the service. In addition to spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, she especially liked traveling. She also enjoyed gardening, reading, movies, and caring for her dogs. She was beloved for her gentleness, kindness, generosity and sense of humor.
She is survived by her children, Lisa Norton of Kentucky; Don Jeffrey (Lisa) Zimmerman of Delaware, Lynn Zimmerman (Dustin Engle) of Gates Mills, and Erich Zimmerman, of Lorain; nine grandchildren; two great-grandsons; and sister, Joan Pickett (nee Barrett) of Centerburg.
Also preceded in death by husband, Don O. Zimmerman and brother Roger W. Barrett.
The family will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the DeVore Snyder Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., Delaware, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 9, 2012 with Chaplain Mardessa Baker officiating.
