Jonnie M. Zimmerman

Jon­nie M. Zim­mer­man (nee Bar­rett), 72, for­merly of Lorain, passed away from can­cer on Sat­ur­day (Aug. 4, 2012) in Delaware.

She was born on July 29, 1939, to the late Richard and Car­alena Bar­rett. Jon­nie was a reg­is­tered nurse who worked in her pro­fes­sion for 44 years. She loved her time as a pub­lic health nurse and the many years she worked as a mater­nity nurse at St. Joseph Hos­pi­tal in Lorain.

Jon­nie grew up in Hunt­ing­ton, W. Va., with her brother Roger and sis­ter Joan. Mov­ing to Gal­lipo­lis to study nurs­ing, she met her hus­band Don while there. They were mar­ried in 1960. In marrying

Don, she mar­ried into the US Navy; she and Don were hon­ored to serve in their pro­fes­sional capacities

in the ser­vice. In addi­tion to spend­ing time with her chil­dren, grand­chil­dren, and great-grandchildren, she espe­cially liked trav­el­ing. She also enjoyed gar­den­ing, read­ing, movies, and car­ing for her dogs. She was beloved for her gen­tle­ness, kind­ness, gen­eros­ity and sense of humor.

She is sur­vived by her chil­dren, Lisa Nor­ton of Ken­tucky; Don Jef­frey (Lisa) Zim­mer­man of Delaware, Lynn Zim­mer­man (Dustin Engle) of Gates Mills, and Erich Zim­mer­man, of Lorain; nine grand­chil­dren; two great-grandsons; and sis­ter, Joan Pick­ett (nee Bar­rett) of Centerburg.

Also pre­ceded in death by hus­band, Don O. Zim­mer­man and brother Roger W. Barrett.

The fam­ily will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednes­day at the DeVore Sny­der Funeral Home, 75 W. William St., Delaware, where ser­vices will be held at 11 a.m. Thurs­day, Aug. 9, 2012 with Chap­lain Mardessa Baker officiating.
