Donald R. Graham

Don­ald R. Gra­ham, a long­time res­i­dent of Union County passed away on Sat­ur­day (Sept. 8, 2012) at his home fol­low­ing a brief illness.

He was born Jan. 6, 1916, in the Ostran­der area of Delaware County to George and Amanda (Seeger) Gra­ham. A grad­u­ate of New Dover High School in Union County, he served in the U.S. Army dur­ing World War II in Europe with the 8th Armored Divi­sion. In 1944, he mar­ried Helen Poul­son and set­tled in the Ostran­der com­mu­nity. He was a build­ing con­trac­tor in the Ostrander/Marysville area for almost 40 years and was a char­ter mem­ber of the Ostran­der Busi­ness Asso­ci­a­tion. An active bridge player, he played cards with senior groups in Union and Delaware County and the St. Cloud area in cen­tral Florida. Don also enjoyed square danc­ing and fish­ing dur­ing his retirement.

He is sur­vived by one son, Mar­vin (Diann) Gra­ham of Ostran­der; two daugh­ters, Betty (Lynn) Dil­dine of Apple Creek and Donna (Bob) Papps of Colum­bus; one brother, James (JoAnne) Gra­ham of Ostran­der; five grand­chil­dren; nine great-grandchildren; one brother-in-law, Charles Poul­son of Colum­bus; two sisters-in-law, Jean Gra­ham of Marysville and Mar­jorie Poul­son of Colum­bus; and numer­ous nieces and nephews.

Don­ald was pre­ceded in death by his wife of 46 years, Helen; his wife of 11 years, Verna Ives; his son, Albert; his grand­son, Eric Dil­dine; four broth­ers, Wal­ter, Robert, Verne and Elmer Gra­ham; and one sis­ter, Janet Dennis.

Vis­i­ta­tion will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Fri­day, Sept. 21, at Robin­son Funeral Home, Delaware, where the funeral ser­vice will be held at 11 a.m. Sat­ur­day, Sept. 22, with the the Rev. Dawn Swartz offi­ci­at­ing. Inter­ment will be at Fairview Ceme­tery in Scioto Township.
