John David 'Jack' Evans

John David “Jack” Evans, 80, of Ash­ley, passed away Wednes­day evening (Sept. 26, 2012) at the Win­ter­song Vil­lage Nurs­ing Home.

He was born June 10, 1932, in Card­ing­ton, and faith­fully and proudly served his coun­try as a mem­ber of the United States Army dur­ing the Korean War. He was a for­mer mem­ber of the Masonic Tem­ple who loved read­ing, wood­work­ing, work­ing in his yard and gar­den and, when younger, work­ing on cars. He loved to fol­low the geneal­ogy of his fam­ily and was very proud of them for liv­ing in this area for many, many years.

He is sur­vived by his wife of 10 years, Jeanne (Gor­don); a son, Fos­ter (Sandy) Evans of Simi Val­ley, Calif.; daugh­ters, Deb­bie Groves of Phoenix, Ariz. and Kathy Hal­li­well of Penn­syl­va­nia; a step­daugh­ter, Becky (Dean) Hooper of Galena; step­sons, Steve (Tracy Swope) Scrib­ner and Chuck Scrib­ner of Ash­ley and Greg (Sherry Shel­ton) Scrib­ner of Mar­ion; 11 grand­chil­dren; nine great-grandchildren; and a cousin, Phyl­lis Mill­berger of Arizona.

He was pre­ceded in death by his brother, Bill.

The fam­ily will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tues­day at the Bennett-Brown-Rodman and Sny­der Funeral Home, 307 E. High St., Ash­ley. Funeral ser­vices will be held at 11 a.m. Wednes­day at the funeral home with the Rev. Jeff Acker offi­ci­at­ing. Bur­ial will fol­low in Green­mound Ceme­tery, Kil­bourne, where the Delaware County Vet­er­ans Asso­ci­a­tion will pro­vide mil­i­tary hon­ors at graveside.
