John David 'Jack' Evans
John David “Jack” Evans, 80, of Ashley, passed away Wednesday evening (Sept. 26, 2012) at the Wintersong Village Nursing Home.
He was born June 10, 1932, in Cardington, and faithfully and proudly served his country as a member of the United States Army during the Korean War. He was a former member of the Masonic Temple who loved reading, woodworking, working in his yard and garden and, when younger, working on cars. He loved to follow the genealogy of his family and was very proud of them for living in this area for many, many years.
He is survived by his wife of 10 years, Jeanne (Gordon); a son, Foster (Sandy) Evans of Simi Valley, Calif.; daughters, Debbie Groves of Phoenix, Ariz. and Kathy Halliwell of Pennsylvania; a stepdaughter, Becky (Dean) Hooper of Galena; stepsons, Steve (Tracy Swope) Scribner and Chuck Scribner of Ashley and Greg (Sherry Shelton) Scribner of Marion; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a cousin, Phyllis Millberger of Arizona.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Bill.
The family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Bennett-Brown-Rodman and Snyder Funeral Home, 307 E. High St., Ashley. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home with the Rev. Jeff Acker officiating. Burial will follow in Greenmound Cemetery, Kilbourne, where the Delaware County Veterans Association will provide military honors at graveside.
