Mariellen Rutherford

Mariellen Ruther­ford, 85, of Pow­ell died Fri­day (Sept. 21, 2012) at her beloved home on Steitz Road.

With her at her bed­side were her grand­daugh­ter Heidi and daughter-in-law Luba. She was born in Rich­wood in 1927 to the late Carl and Pearl Beam. Mariellen lived the major­ity of her adult life on Steitz Road on the Steitz/Rutherford prop­erty. She was employed, and felt priv­i­leged to have been deputy reg­is­trar for Delaware County. She also worked for Ohio Wes­leyan Uni­ver­sity, for the late hon­or­able Judge Wick­ham and the Scioto Vil­lage (Girls Indus­trial School.) Later, she retired from Adria Lab­o­ra­to­ries as an exec­u­tive sec­re­tary. Mariellen was a mem­ber of the East­side Mis­sion Church, a mem­ber and vol­un­teer of the local Demo­c­ra­tic Party and sec­re­tary of the Hyatts Alumni.

She is sur­vived by her lov­ing son, Gary (Luba Nastoff) Ruther­ford of Lafayette, La.; grand­daugh­ter, Heidi (Edward) Cam­pos of Akron; sis­ter, Josephine (John) Lawrence of Pow­ell; brother, Wes­ley (Ruth) Beam of North Car­olina; step-grandchildren, Johnny (Leslie) Nastoff of South Car­olina, Jimmy Nastoff of Hous­ton and Teresa (Sean) Smith of Atlanta, Ga; step-great-grandchildren, Megan Nastoff of Hilton Head, S.C., Milana Smith of Atlanta and Marissa and Alex Cam­pos of Hilliard; and many nieces, nephews and friends.

In addi­tion to her par­ents, Mariellen was pre­ceded in death by her beloved hus­band, Carl Thomas Ruther­ford; her son, C. Thomas Ruther­ford; and her brother, Rufus Beam.

A memo­r­ial ser­vice will be held 11 a.m. Sat­ur­day, Sept. 29, at the Ruther­ford Funeral Home at Pow­ell, 450 W. Olen­tangy St., Pow­ell, where fam­ily will receive friends one hour before the ser­vice begin­ning at 10 a.m. The Rev. Don­nie Akers will be offi­ci­at­ing. (The funeral home is located on West Olen­tangy Street/Powell Road/Ohio 750, one-fourth mile east of Sawmill Parkway.)
