Robert O. 'Bob' Simpkins

Robert O. “Bob” Simpkins, 63, of Delaware, passed away at home Monday morning (Sept. 3, 2012) surrounded by his family.

He was born on July 27, 1949, in Point Pleasant, W. Va., to Wilber Simpkins of Delaware and the late Ruth (Mayes) Simpkins. Moving to Delaware in 1966, he married his high school sweetheart, the former Kathy (Darst) in Delaware in 1970. Until his illness, he worked almost 40 years as a machinist for Luvata Inc., formerly Nippert Corp. of Delaware. He attended the Delaware Church of Christ in Christian Union. He was an avid fan of the OSU Buckeyes and a bowler. Described as simply the “Best,” he was a joker at heart, a family man to the core, one who always thought of others before himself. He treasured time spent visiting his relatives in West Virginia or trips to Amish country. Considered a grill master, he longed for family cookouts and he was always at the grill fixing his famous chicken or chili. He was also quite the photographer, especially of family photos, always using the self timer to make sure he was in the photo.

He was an outdoors-man, who enjoyed fishing and camping. Bob will be remembered for his love of family and his willingness to lend a helping hand.

In addition to his father and wife Kathy of 41 years, he is also survived by son, Mike Simpkins (Lisa Congrove) of Columbus; daughter, Stacie (Joe) Combs of Delaware; four grandchildren, Tyler Combs, Michaela Simpkins, Katie and Maddie Combs; and sisters, Mary and Brenda Simpkins.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Ruth Simpkins; as well as brothers, William and Lester Simpkins.

Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the Snyder Rodman Funeral Center, 1510 W. William St. at Valleyside Drive, Delaware, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday with the Rev. William Benner. Burial will follow in Fairview Memorial Park.
