Doris Rayburn Gourley
Doris Rayburn Gourley, 76, of 2 South Ave., Apt. 605, Bradford, Pa., passed away Friday (Oct. 5, 2012) at UPMC Hamot, Erie, Pa.
She was born Dec. 7, 1935, in Barboursville, W. Va., to the late William and Bertha Weekley Rayburn. She was a graduate of Point Pleasant High School, Point Pleasant, W. Va. She was raised in Delaware, where, while she was working as a waitress, she met the love of her life, David L. Gourley. On July 27, 1959, she married David in Indianapolis. He preceded her in death Oct. 16, 2009, after 50 years of marriage. Besides being a homemaker, Mrs. Gourley was also the bookkeeper for the family business, “Gourley Electric and Heating,” and she ran a child care service in her home for many local children. Mrs. Gourley was a loving and devoted wife and mother who enjoyed raising her children, being a homemaker and an excellent cook. In her free time, she enjoyed taking care of her flower garden. When she was younger she was a proud den mother for the local Cub Scouts.
She is survived by three sons, Warren Gourley, James (Cheri) Gourley and Randy (Tina) Gourley, all of Bradford; two stepsons, Wayne (Stephanie) Gourley of Wachula, Fla. and David Gourley of Avon Park, Fla.; a brother, Jack Rayburn of Columbus; three sisters, Helen Rider of Delaware, Phyllis Wine of York, S.C., and Sarah (Kenny) Bensley of Radnor; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband she was also preceded in death by one son, Michael J. Gourley, who passed away on Aug. 27, 2006; three brothers, Henry Rayburn, Bill Rayburn, Bobby Rayburn; and one step-daughter-in-law, Pam Gourley.
Visitation was held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 9, at the Mascho Funeral Home, Inc., Bradford, at which time a funeral service was held with the Rev. Max Miller, pastor of the Bradford Area Parish, officiating. Burial was in Willow Dale Cemetery, Bradford.
