Doris Rayburn Gourley

Doris Ray­burn Gour­ley, 76, of 2 South Ave., Apt. 605, Brad­ford, Pa., passed away Fri­day (Oct. 5, 2012) at UPMC Hamot, Erie, Pa.

She was born Dec. 7, 1935, in Bar­boursville, W. Va., to the late William and Bertha Week­ley Ray­burn. She was a grad­u­ate of Point Pleas­ant High School, Point Pleas­ant, W. Va. She was raised in Delaware, where, while she was work­ing as a wait­ress, she met the love of her life, David L. Gour­ley. On July 27, 1959, she mar­ried David in Indi­anapo­lis. He pre­ceded her in death Oct. 16, 2009, after 50 years of mar­riage. Besides being a home­maker, Mrs. Gour­ley was also the book­keeper for the fam­ily busi­ness, “Gour­ley Elec­tric and Heat­ing,” and she ran a child care ser­vice in her home for many local chil­dren. Mrs. Gour­ley was a lov­ing and devoted wife and mother who enjoyed rais­ing her chil­dren, being a home­maker and an excel­lent cook. In her free time, she enjoyed tak­ing care of her flower gar­den. When she was younger she was a proud den mother for the local Cub Scouts.

She is sur­vived by three sons, War­ren Gour­ley, James (Cheri) Gour­ley and Randy (Tina) Gour­ley, all of Brad­ford; two step­sons, Wayne (Stephanie) Gour­ley of Wachula, Fla. and David Gour­ley of Avon Park, Fla.; a brother, Jack Ray­burn of Colum­bus; three sis­ters, Helen Rider of Delaware, Phyl­lis Wine of York, S.C., and Sarah (Kenny) Bens­ley of Rad­nor; 10 grand­chil­dren; 12 great-grandchildren; and sev­eral nieces and nephews.

In addi­tion to her par­ents and hus­band she was also pre­ceded in death by one son, Michael J. Gour­ley, who passed away on Aug. 27, 2006; three broth­ers, Henry Ray­burn, Bill Ray­burn, Bobby Ray­burn; and one step-daughter-in-law, Pam Gourley.

Vis­i­ta­tion was held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tues­day, Oct. 9, at the Mascho Funeral Home, Inc., Brad­ford, at which time a funeral ser­vice was held with the Rev. Max Miller, pas­tor of the Brad­ford Area Parish, offi­ci­at­ing. Bur­ial was in Wil­low Dale Ceme­tery, Bradford.
