Gladys D. Geesey
Gladys D. Geesey, 84, of Delaware, died Saturday morning (Oct. 13, 2012) at her residence.
She was born March 31, 1928, in Powell, to the late Vernon and Blanch (Howell) Dudley. She was a homemaker and had lived in Delaware since 1961, coming from Columbus. Gladys was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a foster parent to many. Gladys enjoyed arts and crafts, woodworking, pottery, restoring and making carousel horses and cooking and baking for her family. Gladys in her day was a strikingly beautiful woman and considered an icon of fashion, especially for her red boots. She was a practical joker but not all of her practical jokes were funny, and she would scare the daylights out of her children and grandchildren. Gladys would hunt mushrooms and enjoyed camping especially at Forked Run Campground.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, George Geesey, whom she married April 5, 1958 in Columbus; a daughter, Phyllis (Anthony Sr.) Amato of Delaware; grandchildren, Deedee Cochenour, Melissa (Michael) Young, Anthony Amato Jr., Laurie (Matthew) Moore, Daniel (Nicole) Cochenour II, Tiffany (Reyes) Martinez, and Johnnie Cochenour; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters, Hope Combs of Xenia, Dolly (Ray) Jones of Columbus, Sandy (Ernie) Gregory of Olathe, Colo., and Beverly Watson of California; and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Cochenour, on Oct. 14, 2006; brothers, William and Damon; and sisters, Betty Hill, Virginia Smith, Ann Arroyo and Jean Dudley.
Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Snyder Rodman Funeral Center, 1510 W. William St. at Valleyside, Delaware, where services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Gary Underwood officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery.
Memorial contributions can be made to HomeReach Hospice, 561 W. Central Ave. Delaware, OH 43015. Condolences may be expressed at snyderfuneralhomes.com.
