Helen M. Shirley

Helen M. Shirley, 78, of Delaware passed away Fri­day (Oct. 19, 2012) at River­side Hospital.

She was born on Sept. 6, 1934, in Gulf­port, Miss., to the late Dun­can C. and Helen (Dan­dridge) McLau­rin. Helen mar­ried Wal­ter “Lane” Shirley on Jan. 14, 1955, and together they lov­ingly raised their fam­ily in a Chris­t­ian home. They moved to Delaware in 2002 from the Day­ton area. A women of deep and abid­ing faith, she was an active mem­ber of the Delaware Bible Church. She enjoyed read­ing and espe­cially study­ing the Bible along with her hus­band. Good natured, she was self­less, kind and warm hearted.

Those left to cher­ish her mem­ory include her hus­band of 57 years, Lane; daugh­ter, Con­nie L. Diroff of Delaware; sons, Michael L. (Latrri­cia) Shirley of Choctaw, Okla., and the Rev. John F. (Rebecca) Shirley of Card­ing­ton; seven pre­cious grand­chil­dren, Lea, Kendra, Aaron, John, Han­nah, James and Sadie; as well as sis­ters, Mary Craw­ford of Gulf­port, Miss., and Ann Cos­sett of Dayton.

In addi­tion to her par­ents she was pre­ceded in death by her brother, Jimmy McLaurin.

Ser­vices giv­ing glory to God for the life of Helen Shirley will be held at 10:30 a.m. Mon­day at the Delaware Bible Church, 45 Belle Ave., Delaware, with her son the Rev. John Shirley and the Rev. Mar­vin Hintz offi­ci­at­ing. Bur­ial will fol­low in Oak Grove Ceme­tery. Arrange­ments have been entrusted to the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center.
