Helen M. Shirley
Helen M. Shirley, 78, of Delaware passed away Friday (Oct. 19, 2012) at Riverside Hospital.
She was born on Sept. 6, 1934, in Gulfport, Miss., to the late Duncan C. and Helen (Dandridge) McLaurin. Helen married Walter “Lane” Shirley on Jan. 14, 1955, and together they lovingly raised their family in a Christian home. They moved to Delaware in 2002 from the Dayton area. A women of deep and abiding faith, she was an active member of the Delaware Bible Church. She enjoyed reading and especially studying the Bible along with her husband. Good natured, she was selfless, kind and warm hearted.
Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 57 years, Lane; daughter, Connie L. Diroff of Delaware; sons, Michael L. (Latrricia) Shirley of Choctaw, Okla., and the Rev. John F. (Rebecca) Shirley of Cardington; seven precious grandchildren, Lea, Kendra, Aaron, John, Hannah, James and Sadie; as well as sisters, Mary Crawford of Gulfport, Miss., and Ann Cossett of Dayton.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her brother, Jimmy McLaurin.
Services giving glory to God for the life of Helen Shirley will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Delaware Bible Church, 45 Belle Ave., Delaware, with her son the Rev. John Shirley and the Rev. Marvin Hintz officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Snyder-Rodman Funeral Center.
