At the June 2 regular meeting of the Genoa Township Board of Trustees, township administrator Paul Wise thanked Trek Columbus, OhioHealth, Floyd Browne Group and Congressman Pat Tiberi for their support of the Township’s May 21 Bicycle Tour fundraiser.

Thanks to the support of these sponsors and 96 bicyclists who participated in the event $2,250 was raised for the Genoa Township Park Improvement Fund. This event was organized by the Genoa Township Parks Advisory Board and hosted by Trek Columbus who recently relocated one of their three Central Ohio stores from North Hamilton Road in Columbus to 5985 Maxtown Road in Genoa Township.

Trustees approved the 2011 road improvement program for 6.901 miles of township roads, including 0.571 miles of road resurfacing, including Cypress Drive, Innisbrook Court, Linder Way and Pintail Court. Additionally, 6.33 miles of township roadways will be treated with slurry seal including 36 different roads. These improvements were bid by the Delaware County Engineer’s Office and the trustees approved awarding the project to Shelley and Sands, Inc., in the amount of $234,275.84 as the apparent low bidder of three qualified bids. Due to the use of recycled asphalt, more than $60,000 was saved versus the Delaware County Engineer’s cost estimates for the project. A complete copy of the road improvement program can be found online at genoatwp.com under “Township News.”

The board approved purchase orders to allow for construction of a bike trail between McNamara Park and the Genoa Township Hall. This project will include $35,000 in materials which will be refunded partially through a $100,000 grant awarded to Genoa Township in 2010 from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources’ Recreational Trail Program.

The board announced an auction of used equipment and articles seized by the Genoa Township Police Department will be held at 9 a.m. July 30 in the maintenance garage. The auction will include a 2004 BMW 745i, 2007 Cadillac Escalade, 2004 Yamaha YZFR1 Motorcycle, a 1988 Dodge Van, bicycles, mowers, office furniture, electronics and many other articles. Interested parties are invited to attend and bid on these articles.

Trustees appointed resident Belinda Reed to the Genoa Township Citizens’ Police Advisory Board and husband Michael Reed to the Genoa Township Technical Advisory Board. Trustee Barbara Lewis stated, “We are very thankful to have such highly qualified and willing volunteers to assist with working with our various advisory boards. Genoa Township will undoubtedly benefit from what these two residents will bring to these boards.” Residents interested in helping on any of the Township’s various boards or commissions should contact the Administration Office to discuss the various opportunities to serve.

Trustees rejected all bids submitted for McNamara Park in the interest of performing much of the project with Township personnel and equipment to save public funds. They will be rebidding certain elements of the project, which cannot be handled in-house.

The board announced the first outdoor Movie Night of the year to be at 9 p.m. Saturday, June 25, in the Township Hall Park, showing The Blind Side (PG-13).
