Mamie L. Hickson

Mamie L. Hick­son, 81, of rural Marengo passed away Fri­day evening (Oct. 5, 2012) at Mor­row County Hospital.

She was born on Oct. 13, 1930, in Hunt­ing­ton, W.Va., to the late Jack and Nel­lie (Slack) Ver­nett and was a life­long res­i­dent of Delaware and Mor­row coun­ties. For 25 years she worked as an LPN with Morn­ing View Care Cen­ter in Ful­ton, a job she con­sid­ered her life call­ing. For­ever the care giver, she con­tin­ued prac­tice sharpen her skills into her 80s. Kind, lov­ing and spunky in her own way, she was the con­stant nurturer.

A woman of deep and abid­ing faith, she loved the Lord and was a mem­ber of Alum Creek Friends Evan­gel­i­cal Church and at one time the Stan­ton­town Advent Chris­t­ian Church. Mamie also par­tic­i­pated in Ven­tures Senior Cit­i­zen Group in Marengo as well as the Stan­ton Home Mis­sion. With a con­stant song in her heart, she had won­der­ful voice and loved to sing. An avid NASCAR fan, she fol­lowed Jeff Gor­don, also the Ohio State Buck­eyes and the Cincin­nati Reds. She enjoyed her cats, and trea­sured time spent with her grand­chil­dren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. Her fam­ily put it best, she was awesome.

She is sur­vived by chil­dren, Patri­cia “Pat” (Dick) Clark and Robert Hick­son both of Card­ing­ton, Nancy (Larry) Rossiter of Marengo, Peggy (Howard) Slade of Card­ing­ton, Penny (Charles) Pen­ny­packer of Ash­ley and step­daugh­ter, Susie (Mike) Crotty; 11 grand­chil­dren; 20 great-grandchildren; and eight great-great-grandchildren.

She was pre­ceded in death by her beloved hus­band of almost 45 years, Rus­sell, who died in 1995; son, Roger; step­son, Michael; and sis­ters, Mary Henry and Jackie Cole.

Friends may call 4 to 8 p.m. Sun­day at the Ben­nett, Brown, Rod­man & Sny­der Funeral Home in Ash­ley, where ser­vices will be held at 11 a.m. Mon­day with the Rev. Keith Daniels offi­ci­at­ing. Bur­ial will fol­low in Stan­ton­town Cemetery.
