Margaret Laverne Phillian
Margaret Laverne Phillian (nee Clark) passed away at our Lady of Wisdom Healthcare Center in New Orleans on Wednesday morning (Oct. 10, 2012).
She was born on July 19, 1922, in Cleveland. Her parents, Martha and Bernard Clark brought the family to Delaware in 1939 where Margaret completed her high school education at Willis High School graduating with honors in 1940. She met Harold Ivan Phillian of Ostrander while they both worked at Bun’s restaurant; they married on May 16, 1941. She worked as a secretary for Shively Motor Sales then Pennsalt Chemicals before serving for 19 years at Ohio Wesleyan University as the secretary to the vice president of finance. She was active in staff functions and university activities at OWU. She had been a member of West School PTA, Willis PTA, Spowheel Club and the American Cancer Society. She was a 70 year member of the Delaware First Presbyterian Church where she was very active over the years as bookkeeper and member of many women’s organizations. She loved sewing, crafting, musicals, old movies, gardening and Christmas. She was a great cook and her recipes were featured in a Delaware Gazette article.
She will be greatly missed by her family that survives her: brother, Leonard (Mike) Clark and wife Roberta of Delaware; daughters, Mrs. Sharon Lombardi ( Robert) of New Orleans and Mrs. Marilyn Mayer (Gary) of LaGrange, Ga.; five grandchildren, Meredith Mayer of Atlanta, Robert Blocher (Kathy) of Columbus who are members of Delaware First Presbyterian Church, Mrs. Melanie Parrott (Michael) of Woodstock, Ga., Mrs. Jennifer Holm (Jeremy) of Scottsdale, Ariz., and Ivan Phillian of Sacramento, Calif.; seven great-grandchildren, Rachael, Matthew, Logan, Mackinley, Kyle, Gavin and Abby; many beloved nieces and nephews; numerous great-nieces and nephews; and a lifetime of treasured friends.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Vivian, who died at age 12; her sister-in-law, Sandra Ebright Clark; her husband, Harold Ivan Phillian; son, Harold Edward Phillian; and great-grandsons, Jonathan and Brian Blocher.
Visiting hours will be from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 14, at Robinson Funeral Home, Delaware. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 15, at Delaware First Presbyterian Church with the Rev. Deborah Patterson officiating followed by a graveside ceremony. Interment will be in the family plot in Oak Grove Cemetery, Delaware.
