Margaret Laverne Phillian

Mar­garet Lav­erne Phillian (nee Clark) passed away at our Lady of Wis­dom Health­care Cen­ter in New Orleans on Wednes­day morn­ing (Oct. 10, 2012).

She was born on July 19, 1922, in Cleve­land. Her par­ents, Martha and Bernard Clark brought the fam­ily to Delaware in 1939 where Mar­garet com­pleted her high school edu­ca­tion at Willis High School grad­u­at­ing with hon­ors in 1940. She met Harold Ivan Phillian of Ostran­der while they both worked at Bun’s restau­rant; they mar­ried on May 16, 1941. She worked as a sec­re­tary for Shiv­ely Motor Sales then Pennsalt Chem­i­cals before serv­ing for 19 years at Ohio Wes­leyan Uni­ver­sity as the sec­re­tary to the vice pres­i­dent of finance. She was active in staff func­tions and uni­ver­sity activ­i­ties at OWU. She had been a mem­ber of West School PTA, Willis PTA, Spowheel Club and the Amer­i­can Can­cer Soci­ety. She was a 70 year mem­ber of the Delaware First Pres­by­ter­ian Church where she was very active over the years as book­keeper and mem­ber of many women’s orga­ni­za­tions. She loved sewing, craft­ing, musi­cals, old movies, gar­den­ing and Christ­mas. She was a great cook and her recipes were fea­tured in a Delaware Gazette article.

She will be greatly missed by her fam­ily that sur­vives her: brother, Leonard (Mike) Clark and wife Roberta of Delaware; daugh­ters, Mrs. Sharon Lom­bardi ( Robert) of New Orleans and Mrs. Mar­i­lyn Mayer (Gary) of LaGrange, Ga.; five grand­chil­dren, Mered­ith Mayer of Atlanta, Robert Blocher (Kathy) of Colum­bus who are mem­bers of Delaware First Pres­by­ter­ian Church, Mrs. Melanie Par­rott (Michael) of Wood­stock, Ga., Mrs. Jen­nifer Holm (Jeremy) of Scotts­dale, Ariz., and Ivan Phillian of Sacra­mento, Calif.; seven great-grandchildren, Rachael, Matthew, Logan, Mackin­ley, Kyle, Gavin and Abby; many beloved nieces and nephews; numer­ous great-nieces and nephews; and a life­time of trea­sured friends.

She was pre­ceded in death by her sis­ter, Vivian, who died at age 12; her sister-in-law, San­dra Ebright Clark; her hus­band, Harold Ivan Phillian; son, Harold Edward Phillian; and great-grandsons, Jonathan and Brian Blocher.

Vis­it­ing hours will be from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Sun­day, Oct. 14, at Robin­son Funeral Home, Delaware. The funeral ser­vice will be at 11 a.m. Mon­day, Oct. 15, at Delaware First Pres­by­ter­ian Church with the Rev. Deb­o­rah Pat­ter­son offi­ci­at­ing fol­lowed by a grave­side cer­e­mony. Inter­ment will be in the fam­ily plot in Oak Grove Ceme­tery, Delaware.
