Demolition of historic house denotes end of era
Lyla Phillian McKitrick, 95, of Delaware died Tuesday (May 17, 2011) in the Sarah Moore Home.
She was born March 11, 1916 in Ostrander to Ivan and Ruth (Hannawalt) Phillian. Lyla grew up in Ostrander and was baptized at the Ostrander Presbyterian Church and graduated from Ostrander High School in 1934. She was a former member, Deacon, Elder and Sunday school teacher at the First Presbyterian Church. She later became a member of the Delaware Christian Church. She was a retired employee of Delaware Dry Cleaners, Boston Store, McClellans and Neubert Jewelry Store. She was a member of Pythian Sisters and a lifetime member of the Senior Citizens.
She is survived by a sister-in-law, Margaret Clark Phillian; a brother-in-law, Edward Schulmerich; stepson and wife, Phil and Joyce Mckitrick; stepdaughters-in-law, Judie and Mevla McKitrick; and many grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Harold, Victor and David Phillian; sisters, Inez Jenkins, Zola Brown and Dixie Schulmerich; husbands, Al Hull, Harold Beegle and Forest McKitrick; and stepsons, Melvin and Dan McKitrick.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Robinson Funeral Home where a funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Friday with the Rev. Al Perry officiating. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery.
