Roy J. Peterson

Roy J. Peter­son, 65, of Marysville died Mon­day (Nov. 5, 2012 at Grady Memo­r­ial Hos­pi­tal fol­low­ing a five-year bat­tle with cancer.

A 1966 grad­u­ate of West Lib­erty Salem High School, he was an asso­ciate of Kalm­bach Feeds in Upper San­dusky. A farmer for more than 35 years, he and his fam­ily for­merly man­aged dairy farms in Urbana and the sur­round­ing area. He will be most remem­bered for his com­mit­ment to his work and ded­i­ca­tion to his fam­ily. Despite his ill­ness in recent years, he served as a vol­un­teer since Novem­ber 2010 for Memo­r­ial Hos­pi­tal of Union County’s mobile meals pro­gram. He accrued 266 hours vol­un­teer­ing for the hos­pi­tal. He also enjoyed going on camp­ing out­ings with his wife and family.

He was born Aug. 24, 1947, in Greene County to the late Roy J. and Eliz­a­beth May McK­in­ney Peter­son and was also pre­de­ceased by two sis­ters, Mary Frances Huff­man and Melv­ina Toner; three brothers-in-law, Chuck Reynolds, Carey Knief and Charles Toner; a sister-in-law, Nancy Parks; and his father– and mother-in-law, Wal­ter and Helen Parks.

He is sur­vived by his wife of 46 years, Shirley Jean Parks Peter­son, whom he mar­ried July 3, 1966 at Wes­ley Chapel in West Lib­erty; four sons, David (Stacy) Peter­son of Rad­nor, Scott Peter­son of Mar­ion, Mike (Sonya) Peter­son of Ben­ton, Tenn., and Nick (Barbi) Peter­son of Apple Creek; 14 grand­chil­dren, John, Cody, Joey, Mariah, Jay, Chris­ten, Ash­ley, Austin, Gage, Isaac, Zack, Patrick, Bran­don and Hope; four sis­ters, Delores Reynolds of Spring­boro, Betty Knief and Norma King, both of Urbana and Dar­lene Vanover of Jamestown; his broth­ers– and sisters-in-law, Al (Nay­dene) Parks of St. Paris and Bob Parks of Mechan­ics­burg and Judy (Ed) Strother of Marysville; many nieces and nephews and other rel­a­tives and friends, includ­ing Teresa Lay­tart, Gina Peter­son and her chil­dren, Josh, Kristin and Cheyenne.

The fam­ily will receive friends from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednes­day at Under­wood Funeral Home in Marysville. Funeral ser­vices will be held 10:30 a.m. Thurs­day at Cal­vary Bap­tist Church, 17376 Ohio 347. The Rev. Matt Zurowski will offi­ci­ate and bur­ial will be at Hopewell Ceme­tery on Hopewell Road in Lees­burg Township.
