Grace Lucille (Lucy) Peoples

Grace Lucille (Lucy) Peoples, 97, of Columbus, passed away Saturday (Feb. 26, 2011).

Lucy is a retired teacher of 30 years for North Union High School. She graduated from South High School and Ohio State University, Class of 1935, and was a loyal Buckeye fan. She was a member of Liberty Presbyterian Church of Delaware, being very involved in their youth programs as well as the “Top of the Hill Gang.” She loved playing cards and was a wonderful friend to so many. Lucy was born Aug. 19, 1913 to the late Jesse and Lena (Mesner) Gladden in Columbus.

She is survived by her daughters, Phyllis Jolliff of Powell and Pat Schmidt of Tustin, Calif.; son, Phil (Susie) Peoples of Lewis Center; grandchildren, Jessica (Jay) Wampler, Brad (Claire) Jolliff, Emily (Ian) Elliott, Seth (Dioanna) Schmidt, Michael (Traci) Peoples and Paul Peoples; and eight great-grandchildren.

A celebration of Lucy’s life will be held on Friday March 4, at Liberty Presbyterian Church, 7080 Olentangy River Road, Delaware. Visitation will be from 10 to 11 a.m. and the service is at 11 a.m. The Rev. John and Becky Hart will officiate. A reception is to be held immediately following the service at Liberty Presbyterian Church. Interment will be in Huntsville Cemetery in Huntsville. Arrangements by O. R. Woodyard Co., Columbus.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Wendell (1977); sisters, Dorothy Eckmann, Marion Brooks and Pauline Tedder; and son-in-law, Rodger Jolliff.

The family suggests memorial gifts be directed to Liberty Presbyterian Children’s Ministry in Lucy’s memory.
