Riding a nine-game hitting streak, hitting at a .524 clip over the last week, Ohio Dominican University senior Evan Shaw, a Delaware Hayes grad, was selected as the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference’s (GLIAC) Baseball Player of the Week.
The speedy center fielder had 11 hits in 21 at bats in six games last week, and also drew two walks to bump his on-base percentage to .565. Shaw scored five runs, knocked in two and swiped a pair of bases during the tear. He notched two or more hits in each of the past five games, including a 3-for-4 effort in last Saturday’s 6-1 win over Northwood.
Shaw leads the conference with 13 steals in 15 attempts this spring, and he ranks third in the league with 30 hits. Overall, he is leading the team with a .405 batting average and has nine multi-hit games this year. Since moving to the leadoff spot, ODU is 8-2 this spring, and Shaw has struck out just four times in 74 at bats.
