Ohio Wesleyan University assistant track and field coach Matt Wackerly was accorded regional coaching honors from the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association, it was announced by the USTFCCCA on Monday evening.
Wackerly was named Great Lakes Region Women’s Assistant Coach of the Year.
Wackerly, who works with the Ohio Wesleyan distance runners, helped two Battling Bishops qualify for the NCAA Division III outdoor track and field championship meet. Ohio Wesleyan will be represented on the national stage in the 1,500-meter run and the 5,000-meter run. Wackerly also helped Ohio Wesleyan runners win North Coast Athletic Conference championships in the 1,500-meter run and the 3,000-meter steeplechase, the latter in a conference record time. Bishop runners also took All-Ohio Division III titles in the 1,500- and 5,000-meter events. This spring, Ohio Wesleyan won the All-Ohio Division III outdoor championship for the first time since 2007, and won the NCAC title for the third straight year and the fourth time in five years.
