Daniel H. Halter, 68, of Delaware, passed away Saturday (March 5, 2011) after a 12-year battle with a neurological disease.
He was born on Feb. 16, 1943, in Cleveland, to the late Lawrence and Mary (Kenney) Halter. He was a graduate of the Ohio State University college of engineering and practiced forensic engineering. He owned two Delaware businesses — NRC Engineering and Halter Roofing. Dan was an active member of St. John Neumann Catholic Church, Sunbury. He was chairman of the committee which planned and raised funds for the new church building, and he was most proud of obtaining the pews and landscaping. Even after his illness was far advanced, Dan loved to water the landscape plants on hot summer days. He enjoyed hiking, gardening, travelling and was a fan of Cleveland sports teams. He was a Jaycee for many years.
He is survived by his wife and best friend; Rosemary (Kneer) Halter, whom he married Aug. 14, 1965 in Evansville, Ind.; sons, Thomas (Kristen) of Brunswick and Andrew (Kimberly) of Delaware; grandchildren, Sophia, Elizabeth, Joshua and Ryan; brothers, Larry of Reynoldsburg, Tim of Columbus, Jim (Rosalie) of Delaware and Mike (Cecilia) of Penn Valley, Penn.; and a sister-in-law, Anne of Delaware.
Friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday with a prayer service at 6 p.m., at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at 61, Sunbury. A mass of Christian burial will be held at 9:50 a.m. Saturday at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 9633 Ohio 37 E., Sunbury, with Fr. David Sizemore celebrant. Inurnment will take place at a later date in the St. Mary Cemetery, Delaware.
