Police vehicle hits pedestrian

A pedestrian crossing W. Central Avenue at N. Sandusky Street was struck and injured by a police vehicle Thanksgiving.


Caroline Welker, 21, of Delaware, was transported to Grady Memorial Hospital after being struck by a black 2012 Ford Explorer XL 4x4 identified in the accident report as a vehicle owned by the City of Delaware and noted as a police vehicle.


According to the accident report, the driver of the police vehicle, Mark Jackson, was traveling north on N. Sandusky Street approaching the intersection of Central Avenue and a green light. Jackson turned left onto W. Central Avenue striking Welker who was crossing northbound in the crosswalk 12:21 a.m.


Jackson was cited for failing to yield right of way in a crosswalk, the accident report said.
