Powell City Council awarded a bid to G.Marchi & Son, LLC in the amount of $17,888.34 for the annual Sidewalk Repair and Replacement Program Tuesday evening.

This contractor is to work on 38 properties on this year’s Sidewalk Program list, according to public information officer Jeff Robinson.

Of the 59 owners with properties on the list, 21 opted out of the program, Robinson added.

Two other companies bid on the program this year: Smith Concrete & Design, LLC and Decker Construction Co. Powell’s Engineering Department had recommended council approve G. Marchi & Son as this year’s contractor.

G. Marchi & Son had worked on Powell’s sidewalks in 2010, said Robinson.

At an earlier council meeting, city engineer Robert Rice said the estimated cost to replace a sidewalk is $11 per square foot —$1 per square foot less than last year. Sidewalks with hairline cracks, for example, require such maintenance.

The costs of releveling sidewalks with a concrete jack are estimated at $100 per block, Rice said.

Staff engineer Mason Janczak had previously estimated the program costs to be $27,176.
