Stocks higher, but volatile, after Bernanke speaks

Edgar W. Rice, 79, of Delaware passed away late Monday afternoon (Sept. 12, 2011) at Grady Memorial Hospital surrounded by his family.

He was born Nov. 2, 1931 in Lawrence County, Ky., to Edgar and Doshie (McDowel) Rice. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a carpenter by trade. He was a member of the Eastside Mission Church who enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, spending time with his family, going to church and playing bingo during his stay at the nursing home.

He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Lois (McDaniel); four sons, Harold (April) of Gallia County, Rick (Vickie) of Delaware, Butch (Beth) and Skip (Patty) all of Ashley; daughter, Susan Rice of Delaware; 15 grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren; brother, Conard Rice of London; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Deanna Morrison; five brothers, Cecil, Truman, Tommy, Gordon and Donald; and four sisters, Pauline, Goldie, Joyce and Vernie.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 15, at the Eastside Mission Church, 32 Joy Ave., Delaware, and where funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 16, with the Rev. Donnie Akers officiating. Burial will follow in Ashley Union Cemetery.
