Holiday message: Drive sober

December 10, 2011

Janet C. Sullivan, 85, of Delaware passed away unexpectedly Sunday evening (July 10, 2011) at home.

She was born on May 21, 1926 in Johnston County, Ky., to the late Elijah and Eva (Caudill) Cordial and moved to Delaware in 1946 from Paintsville, Ky. Throughout her retail career, she first worked for Owen Jewelry, The Style Shop, Ulhman’s Dept. Store and finally at Stage Dept. Store, all stores formerly of her beloved downtown Delaware. Janet loved work, especially her loyal customers; she took delight in helping them select a gift for someone special or a matching outfit. Her home church was St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Delaware. She was a gifted gardener, especially flowers of all types. A private person, she always took pride in her appearance. She will be remembered for her style and devotion to her husband of 58 years, Red.

She is survived by sisters, Lassie Gale, Rita Dennis and Dorothy Rayburn all of Delaware, and Charlotte Cordial of Worthington; numerous nieces and nephews with whom she shared a very special bond; treasured friends and neighbors, Ed and Betsy Switzer and Bob and Barbara Jones of Delaware; and many customers, whom she considered friends.

Janet was preceded in death by her husband, Walter “Red” on Dec. 25, 2006; and sisters, Opal Cordial, Garnet Lawrence and Juanita Gruber.

Friends may call one hour prior to the 2:30 p.m. Friday funeral services at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home in Delaware. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery beside her husband.
