Junior second baseman Zach Bott (Dublin/Coffman) drove in 4 runs and belted Ohio Wesleyan’s first homer of the season as the Bishops outslugged Heidelberg 13-11 in non-conference play on Wednesday in Tiffin.

Ohio Wesleyan raced to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first inning, with Bott tripling and scoring on a sacrifice fly by senior first baseman Nathan Strome (Sidney).

An RBI triple by Ross Pruitt, an RBI double from Ricardo Lizcano, and an RBI single by Arneal Squibb brought the Student Princes within 4-3 in the bottom of the inning, and Heidelberg pulled even at 6-6 on Joe Chiarappa’s 2-run homer in the bottom of the third.

The Bishops took the lead for good in the fourth on a 2-run single by junior catcher James Toland (Stow/Walsh Jesuit), and senior shortstop Steve Gaydos (Strongsville) added an RBI single later in the frame for a 9-6 Ohio Wesleyan lead.

Heidelberg closed to within 9-8 on Steven Kisan’s bases-loaded double-play grounder in the fourth and another Pruitt RBI single in the fifth, but the Bishops countered with 4 runs in the top of the seventh, with senior outfielder James DiBiasio (Westlake) contributing an RBI single and Bott capping the Ohio Wesleyan scoring with a 3-run shot that made it 13-8.

The Student Princes rallied in the ninth, coming within 13-11 on RBI singles by Eric Monroe, Chiarappa, and Pruitt, but sophomore righthander Brandon Marker (Dublin/Scioto) came on to get the final out for his first save of the season.

Gaydos went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI, while DiBiasio, Bott, and Toland had 2 hits apiece.

Sophomore righthander Greg Hock (Lewis Center/Bishop Watterson) was credited with the win in relief.

Pruitt, Lizcano, and Squibb had 4 hits apiece for Heidelberg.
