Olympic Roundup: Jeter helps US break world record at Olympics

Betty Lou Veley, 87, of Marysville passed away early Thursday morning (March 3, 2011) at Grady Memorial Hospital.

She was born Sept. 12, 1923 in Union County to William J. and Ollie (Tossey) Neill. Prior to having children, she had worked for Ranco Controls in Delaware and Plain City. She attended Bellpoint United Methodist Church and was a life member of the VFW Post 3320 Auxiliary of Marysville and the Ex-POW Chapter 1 of Columbus. She enjoyed spending time with her family and also taking care of foster children over the years that came from the Children’s Home. In her later years, she enjoyed wintering in Webster, Fla., with her husband.

She is survived by her husband of almost 65 years, Raymond Sheets Veley, whom she married on March 17, 1946. Also surviving are two daughters, Cheri Gregory of Marysville and Debbie (Danny) Snyder of New Dover; grandson, Dan Wampler of Marysville; two brothers, Robert (Dorothy) Neill of East Liberty and Richard (Norma) Neill of Marysville; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Clarence, Merle and Floyd Neill; and four sisters, Violet Fawcett, Lucille Clark, Mary Meyers and Ruth Ackerman.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday, March 6, and from 10 a.m. until time of funeral services at 11 a.m. on Monday, March 7, at the Rodman Neeper Funeral Home, Delaware. Burial will follow in Marlboro Cemetery.
