Paul Bowers Thomas, Jr., 83, of Mansfield, passed away Saturday, Sept. 17, 2011 at his home following an extended illness.
Paul was born Oct. 17, 1927, in Mansfield, to Josephine R. (Stanniger) and Paul B. Thomas Sr. He graduated from Mansfield Senior High School in 1945. Paul served in the U.S. Army at the end of World War II. He was stationed in Japan during the Allied occupation. He was employed by Earl Davis Chevrolet, Graham Chevrolet and Joyce Buick as service manager and new car salesman. Paul received many awards for salesmanship and service, including GM’s “Legion of Leaders.” Paul was active in the Pandora Dance Club, was an avid golfer and enjoyed boating on Lake Erie.
He is survived by his wife, Jean, whom he married Sept. 14, 1960; children, Suzan Harden of Ft. Myers, Fla., Barbara (Otto) Heck of Sevierville, Tenn., Joseph Pittenger, Paula McNeely and James (Diane) Pittenger, all of Ashland and Jon (Juanita) Kline of Mansfield; grandchildren, Jennifer Payne of Marion, Elisabeth (Pat) Buschle of Wilmington, N.C.; Melissa Heck of Knoxville, Tenn., Paul Heck of Sevierville, Tenn., Teresa Paige, Ryan Pittenger of California, Mindy (Marty) Hitchcock of Indiana, Karla (Thomas) Keister of Missouri, Amy Pittenger and Melissa Pittenger, both of Ohio; several great-grandchildren; and brothers, John (Ann) Thomas of Mansfield and James Thomas of Concord, Calif.
He was preceded in death by his parents; older sister, Marjorie; and daughter, Paula Jeanine.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, in the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, 98 S. Diamond St., Mansfield. Visit the online guest registry at wappner.com.
