Walter Damian “Walt” Neighbor II, of Newcomerstown and formerly of Delaware, died suddenly Friday afternoon (Oct. 28, 2011) in the emergency room of the Southeast Ohio Regional Medical Center, Cambridge, after suffering an apparent heart attack at his Newcomerstown residence.
Walter was born on July 15, 1979 in Coshocton. He attended the Newcomerstown schools for several years and then graduated from Buckeye Valley Joint Vocational School North, Delaware County, class of 1998. Walt was a self-employed roofer and carpenter for several years, and also held several jobs as a laborer. He was a Catholic by faith. Walt enjoyed canoeing, fishing and listening to his two favorite musical groups, The Grateful Dead and Bob Marley and the Wailers. He also was a skilled tattoo artist.
He is survived by his mother, Toni Durben Fish of Newcomerstown; his father, W. Damian Neighbor of Delaware; his son, W. James Neighbor of Delaware; his daughter, Olivia Violet Neighbor of Newcomerstown; his fiancé, Christina M. Humphreys of Newcomerstown; sisters, Heather Renee Fish of Newcomerstown, and Samantha K. Neighbor of Richmond, Va.; step father Kenneth K. Fish of Newcomerstown; step mother, Deb Neighbor of Delaware; step sister, Destiny Garrison of Lewis Center; maternal grandmother, Gloria Mc Donald of Coshocton; maternal grandfather, Larry and wife Betty Durben of Brewster; paternal grandmother, Linda Neighbor of Warsaw; paternal grandfather W. Jerry and wife Marlena Neighbor of Delaware; six aunts; two uncles; and numerous cousins.
Walt was preceded in death by his maternal great grandmother, Laura Durben, who helped raise him, and an aunt, Lori Neighbor of Coshocton.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 4, in the Ourant Funeral Home. The Rev. Ric Bonice will conduct the services. Burial will follow at Fairfield Cemetery, West Lafayette. Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening at the funeral home and from noon until the 1 p.m. Friday funeral.
The family is requesting that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Walter D. Neighbor II Memorial Fund, pay to the order of Toni Fish, care of the Huntington National Bank, 100 West Main St., Newcomerstown OH 43832.
