Jordan hopes to repeal alternative energy rule

James “Big Jim” Benjamin Jr., 67, of Marion passed away at 11:41 a.m. Friday (Sept. 30, 2011) in the Marion General Hospital.

He was born in Marion on April 20, 1944 to the late James and Mattie (Blair) Benjamin Sr. On June 27, 1987 in Marion, Jim married Beverly Kay Cousin Alexander and she survives. He was a 1962 graduate of Marion Harding High School where he excelled in athletics and in 2007 Jim was inducted into the Marion Harding High School Athletic Hall of Fame. He served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the Medgar Evers Elks Lodge of Marion. Jim enjoyed coaching softball in the Marion area. He was employed for 32 years with the Whirlpool Corp. before his retirement in 2004.

The lifelong Marion resident is survived by his wife; a son, Andre Faggs of Miami, Fla.; two daughters, Harnetha (James) Brown and Tanya (Thomas) Harris both of Marion; a sister, Julia Logan of Delaware; seven grandchildren, including two he raised, Kimberly Alexander of Columbus and Raymond Alexander of Marion; and 10 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Margarite Coats.

Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday at the Boyd-Born Funeral Home. The Rev. Arthur Butler will conduct the funeral service at 1 p.m. Friday, Oct. 7, at the Christ Missionary Baptist Church with burial to follow in the Marion Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Raymond Alexander, Anthony Bolton, Scott Goins, William Scott, William Troutman and Herbie Williams. Honorary pallbearers are Khahharee Alexander, Keyvion Alexander and Kwauve Booker.
