Freshman defender Eilee Foley (Portsmouth, N.H.) scored what proved to be the game-winning goal as Ohio Wesleyan edged Oberlin 8-7 in North Coast Athletic Conference play on Sunday in Oberlin.

The win was the Bishops’ first in conference competition this season.

Ohio Wesleyan trailed, 6-5, midway through the second half when sophomore midfielder Cate Bailey (Hingham, Mass.) found junior midfielder Meredith Wholley (Brentwood, Tenn.) for a score to tie the game with 13:32 left in regulation time.

Less than a minute later, senior attacker Kat Enders (Lake Oswego, Ore./St. Mary’s Academy) set up junior attacker Annie Swanson (McLean, Va./Langley) on a goal that put Ohio Wesleyan ahead to stay.

Foley then fielded a pass from Bailey and scored with 9:47 remaining for an 8-6 Ohio Wesleyan lead.

Oberlin narrowed the deficit to 8-7 when Sarah Andrews converted a free-position shot with 7:31 left in regulation time, but that was as close as the Yeowomen would come.

Swanson had given Ohio Wesleyan an early 2-0 lead with a pair of goals in the first 10 minutes of the game, but Oberlin, led by a pair of Kate Hanick scores, came back to take a 4-3 halftime lead.

Swanson and Bailey opened the second half with goals just over a minute apart to return the lead to Ohio Wesleyan, but the Yeowomen countered with scores from Ilyssa Meyer and Andrews to take a 6-5 lead less than 10 minutes into the period.

Swanson led the Bishops with 4 goals, while Bailey finished with a goal and 3 assists.

Senior Lauren Figy (Westfield, Mass.) was credited with 8 saves in the Ohio Wesleyan crease.

Hanick had 2 goals and an assist for Oberlin. Madeleine O’Meara had 9 saves for the Yeowomen.
