LIMA — The Allen County Sheriff’s Office identified the man who was involved in a high-speed chase with law enforcement on Saturday.
Allen County Sheriff Samuel Crish said Jayden Eugene Bess has been identified as the driver involved in the case. An official from the office said Bess was not taken into custody and an address was not yet available for the report.
At 2:38 a.m. Saturday, Bess failed to stop after an officer activated emergency lights and an audibal signal to pull over on a routine traffic stop as he was driving west on North Shore Drive at West Street, according to Crish.
Bess took off and led several law enforcement agencies on a chase through Lima streets and Allen County roads at speeds between 35 and 70 miles per hour. The chase continued east on Bible Street from Sugar Street, onto Slabtown Road, south on North Dixie Highway and onto state Route 81.
The chase ended at 4:05 a.m. when Bess lost control of his vehicle and struck the raised curb and the bucket on a front end loader parked on the north side of the road near the Interstate 75 overpass. Bess’ vehicle flipped and he was ejected from the vehicle.
Crish said the incident remained under investigation and there will be several charges filed against Bess.
Bath Fire and EMS transported Bess to Lima Memorial Health System, where he was admitted with undetermined injuries.
