ST. MARYS — Sheriff investigators were looking into the death of a man found dead dangling upside down from a bridge with his leg caught in the guardrail.
The Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office got a call just before 1:15 p.m. Sunday of a man hanging from a bridge by his leg. When deputies arrived they found Richard A. Moon III, 36, of rural St. Marys, hanging upside down from a bridge support in the 7000 block of Washington Pike, Sheriff Al Solomon reported.
Moon had been there for likely a number of hours but Solomon said the investigation was continuing to try to pinpoint a time frame.
Moon’s vehicle was found nearby and was involved in a crash about one-tenth of a mile east of the bridge that crosses East Branch Creek. The crash was unrelated to Moon hanging from the bridge, Solomon said.
Moon’s body was removed and taken to the Lucas County Coroner’s Office for an autopsy. Foul play was not suspected, Solomon said.
Investigators will have to wait for a toxicology test to determine if alcohol or drugs played a factor, Solomon said.
They do not suspect Moon’s death was a suicide and there is no indication to point to that, Solomon said.
Moon was not reported missing, Solomon said.
