Delaware County has reached an agreement with the collective bargaining unit representing workers in the Department of Environmental Services.
The Delaware County commissioners on Monday unanimously approved a three-year contract with the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, Ohio Council 8 AFL-CIO.
The contract, which expires Dec. 31, 2016, provides environmental services employees with 2-percent wage increases in each of the final two years.
The union is expected to meet this week to ratify the agreement, said Environmental Services Director Tiffany Jenkins.
“I think it will mean a lot if we go first,” she told the commissioners.
The contract also bars employees from striking, maintains the first-in-last-out policy toward layoffs and allows employees to take compensatory time in lieu of overtime pay.
Contract negotiations began in September and a tentative agreement was reached by January.
“I don’t expect there to be any more changes at this point,” Jenkins said.
In addition to the approving the contract, the commissioners also approved revised job descriptions for 22 positions within the department and updated the wage scale to more closely match the central Ohio market.
