The Big Walnut and Olentangy Orange boys track and field teams didn’t have any winners at Saturday’s Newark Invitational … they did have a handful of highlights, though.
The Golden Eagles, who finished sixth in the 17-team meet with a combined 48 points, were boosted by their 4x800 relay team (Logan Perry, Bobby Bogantz, Joe Muench and Michael Buckles), which finished second with a time of 8:34.14. Kaden Thompson also picked up second-place points, clearing 12-06 in the pole vault to nab runner-up honors.
Cole Stark was steady, too, finishing third in the 300-meter hurdles thanks to an effort of 43.12 seconds. Stark was also productive in the field events, finishing in a fourth-place tie in the high jump with a leap of 5-08 — a mark equaling that of teammate Isaac Lucas, who finished sixth due to more misses.
The Pioneers, meanwhile, finished 11th with 32 points.
Top performers included Brandon Lane, who finished second in the 3,200-meter run in 10:15.39; and Brandon Morrow and Hunter Moore, who finished third and fourth in the 1,600-meter run in respective times of 4:45.31 and 4:46.83.
