Signal and drivers out of order

April 10, 2014

The traffic signal at Winter and Sandusky streets was out of operation for more than an hour Thursday afternoon because of a power outage that affected about 660 customers in the city. Another outage affected 137 customers near Liberty and Freedon roads. At Winter and Sandusky, a number of motorists drove under the disabled signals without stopping, in violation of Ohio Revised Code Section 4511.132. It requires drivers, upon arriving at an intersection with a malfunctioning signal, to “Stop at a clearly marked stop line, but if none, stop before entering the crosswalk on the near side of the intersection, or, if none, stop before entering the intersection.”
