Chocolate is in a class of its own

Some say that chocolate is a fruit since it comes from a cacao tree in the tropics. Some also insist that anything covered in chocolate has to be good for you.

Red is more than just a color to wear

The color that you wear can define you. On Feb. 1, the employees at the hospital where I work were asked to wear red in honor of National Heart Health Month. Every year the color red reminds us that a heart-healthy lifestyle saves lives.

Ralph made the first 21 days easier

It’s easy to start a new diet. All you have to say is, “I’m on a diet.” The hard part is the day after and the day after and the day after that. It takes approximately 21 days to change a habit. Our intake and movement behaviors are a combination of many habits.

Quit picking the white stuff off citrus

There is a difference of opinion in my house about eating citrus. My husband was taught by his mother to peel all of the white stuff off the outside of an orange. A small speck of anything that is not orange is unacceptable.

Onions are valuable to chew

Every time I reach down to that cool dark spot in my cupboard to pull out an onion I feel like I am searching for gold. These yellow spheres are valuable. They may only cost a few dollars a bag, but these nuggets of juicy goodness spell good health to me.

Cold sores are a thing of the past

If there is a cold sore just waiting to erupt on your face there is something that you should know. Forget all of the topical, horrible tasting, and expensive pain killers for this virus. There is a simple way to not only cure cold sores but prevent them as well.

Why would anyone want to be a dietitian?

Last week I had two college students spend a day with me at work. One delightful young lady followed my every footstep on Monday and another on Wednesday.

Fresh ingredients make better cookies

It has been a long time since I wrote anything about cookies. Usually I remind readers that although cookies are not forbidden, eating them must be limited. While talking to one man about Oreos and recommending that he eat two cookies as a serving, he admitted that he eats two strips or half of a package of Oreos as a serving. Ouch!
