Sheriff, commissioners clash over finances

In what has become an annual end-of-year tra­di­tion, the Delaware County com­mis­sion­ers clashed this week with the county sher­iff over his bud­get request. Sher­iff Wal­ter L. Davis III is ask­ing the com­mis­sion­ers for a $21.3 mil­lion bud­get for 2012, up from $17.8 mil­lion granted to sheriff’s office this year.

County elections director fired

One of the two co-directors of the Delaware County Board of Elec­tions has been fired. The four-member board that over­sees the county’s elec­tion office on Wednes­day voted unan­i­mously to dis­miss Demo­c­ra­tic Board of Elec­tions Direc­tor Brian Mumford.

New roundabout, bridges in county’s future

The num­ber of round­abouts in Delaware County will increase next year fol­low­ing an agree­ment to seek a con­trac­tor to build the county’s next one.

A gem of a granddaughter

The event cel­e­brated the legacy of Dale W. Bar­gar and included a recep­tion in his mem­ory. Bar­gar, who had worked at Bar­gar Jew­elry since his teens and oper­ated the down­town fix­ture since 1990, died in August. Ruther­ford is Bargar’s granddaughter.
