
Everyone has a dream, and Raechel Root is no different. The Olentangy High School senior’s ambition is to attend Columbia University, live in New York City, work as a copy editor for a publishing house and write her own fiction.

Nearly 100 local school children will receive an early Christmas present — a fresh look at the world.

Rice coordinates Buehler’s employees to fill slots for the Salvation Army as bell ringers. Lt. Aaron Moore of the Salvation Army said there is a need for both volunteer and seasonal employee bell ringers this season. Moore said while donations are up a bit at this point from last year, and he still hopes to make this year’s goal of $100,000. Students in Jim Warner’s law enforcement class at the Delaware Area Career Center (DACC) won the school’s annual food fight Wednesday. This food fight did not end with a mess in a cafeteria, however. Instead, it resulted in the collection of more than 4,000 food items, and hats, gloves, coats and scarves for People In Need, Inc. of Delaware County’s annual Holiday Clearinghouse.
The Festival of Trees, the Women’s City Club’s annual holiday fundraiser, will not only give Christmas spirit to those attending, but will also help local low income women have safe, affordable, transitional housing. The Festival of the Trees will be held Saturday at 135 N. Franklin St., Delaware.

Buckeye Valley High School industrial arts teacher Robert Hoak has not shaved his beard since the mid-1970s. Neither his daughter, Melissa Crum, pictured, nor his wife of 33 years, Bobbi Hoak, have seen him without a beard — that is until Friday. High school students and staff raised money for the Buckeye Valley Food Pantry with a “No-Shave November” fundraiser, expecting to raise $400. The fund grew to $2,100 with the added incentive of seeing Robert Hoak shave off his beard for the cause.
