While you are out­side enjoy­ing the weather this spring and sum­mer, don’t take the health of your skin for granted. Increased expo­sure to ultra­vi­o­let radi­a­tion from the sun increases your risk of skin can­cer and pre­ma­ture aging of the skin.

A mammogram is front-line defense against breast cancer

Delaware County scores high in most health mea­sures and was recently named the health­i­est county in Ohio accord­ing to a study by the Robert Wood John­son Foun­da­tion and the Uni­ver­sity of Wis­con­sin Pop­u­la­tion Health Insti­tute. But we lag behind in one crit­i­cal area: the num­ber of women who receive screen­ing mammograms.

Be an organ and tissue donor — be a hero

Organ and tis­sue dona­tion gives every­one a chance to be a hero. The deci­sion of just one per­son to become a donor can save as many as eight lives with organ dona­tion and heal 50 oth­ers with tis­sue donation.

For hos­pi­tals nation­wide, accred­i­ta­tion is an impor­tant indi­ca­tor of excel­lent med­ical care. It also helps hos­pi­tals recruit excel­lent physi­cians, nurses and other skilled caregivers.

Don’t let a good night’s sleep elude you

Sleep is a foun­da­tion of fit­ness, but peo­ple often over­look its value, espe­cially in com­par­i­son to diet and exer­cise. We need ade­quate sleep to main­tain healthy func­tion­ing. Sleep rests and reju­ve­nates body and mind. It is essen­tial for our phys­i­cal and emo­tional well-being.
