Swiss chard has been in cultivation for over 2000 years. Sometimes called Chard, Leaf Beet, Seakale Beet, Silver Beet, and Spinach Beet. It’s a descendant of a wild beetroot and often still referred to as beetroot. It was referenced by the Greeks and Romans in the 4th century BC with both light and dark green varieties mentioned. They ate it sautéed with lentils, beans and mustard.
