According to an article in Natural Dog Magazine, in the U.S., we dump more than 10 million tons of dog waste into our landfills each year which accounts for as much as four percent of the landfill. The methane from dog waste is supposedly 30 times more potent than carbon dioxide as a greenhouse gas and, according to the EPA, “dog waste contributes to surface and ground water bacteria.” So, what’s a pet owner to do?

Okay, this is not what you think it is. This movement is not one that is against any sort of bowel function. This is a growing group of grassroots individuals who don’t use shampoo or conditioner in their hair but allow for more natural hair care. I did catch your attention, didn’t I?

For any parent who is concerned about the environment, I think one of the things we strive to do well is share our values and knowledge and love of the natural world with our kids.
What’s great about March is the fact that spring break (or if you don’t have kids in school anymore, just spring itself), is visible on the distant horizon. No, it’s not a mirage, it really is coming and we will soon be able to tuck another winter away on the shelf and safely unfold our thoughts of revitalizing sunshine and blossoming landscapes.

The “local food” movement has gained a lot of steam over the past few years, and with good reason. Eating seasonally and closer to home means fresher, healthier food for your family, not to mention the fossil fuels it saves by not having to be shipped from the other side of the country (or beyond!). If you’ve never enjoyed a salad of baby greens picked just a few hours earlier, you truly don’t know just how delicious and deeply satisfying a simple salad can be.
