Delaware school board targets June for vote on student athlete GPA

The Delaware City School Board is expected to vote in June on pro­posed stricter stu­dent ath­lete grade require­ments. The new stan­dard would require Hayes High School ath­letes who are sopho­mores, juniors and seniors to earn at least a 1.75 GPA, an increase from the cur­rent 1.5 GPA. The new stan­dard is one of sev­eral revi­sions to poli­cies that are being con­sid­ered by the board.

With nearly 30 local chil­dren cur­rently in the care of fos­ter par­ents, the Delaware County com­mis­sion­ers on Mon­day rec­og­nized May as “Fos­ter Care Month.” In a unan­i­mous vote, com­mis­sion­ers approved a res­o­lu­tion rec­og­niz­ing that fos­ter fam­i­lies have “opened their homes and expressed love and secu­rity to these chil­dren and have sup­ported their birth fam­i­lies in meet­ing the goals nec­es­sary to reunify par­ents and children.”
