Hayes High School senior Andie Moore will be head­ing south to Ohio Uni­ver­sity this fall to begin study­ing infor­ma­tional graph­ics and page design. She would like even­tu­ally to work for a non-profit orga­ni­za­tion, poten­tially in an area that focuses on the environment

BV’s Patzke will follow his dream

Ini­tially con­sid­er­ing den­tistry as a call­ing, Buck­eye Val­ley senior Rob Patzke has decided to take a dif­fer­ent career path. He first con­sid­ered chang­ing his career goal after shad­ow­ing a sur­geon, result­ing in an inter­est on oral surgery, which led Rob to go so far as to be awake dur­ing his own wis­dom tooth extraction.

BW’s Evans will pursue a career in nursing

Brit­tany Evans is excited to take on a new envi­ron­ment. The Big Wal­nut senior said while she loves Sun­bury, she is ready to leave. “It will be weird though,” she added.

Liberty’s Wang on path to saving lives

While he is con­sid­er­ing a career as a heart sur­geon, Oliver Wang may ulti­mately seek another way to save lives. His dream is to some­day open a clinic in a loca­tion where vac­ci­na­tions save lives. “It’s a dif­fer­ent kind of thing,” he said on the impact of sav­ing lives through a clinic as com­pared to being a surgeon.

DACC’s Jokerst keeps his eyes on the prize

Alexan­der Jokerst’s senior year is going pretty well. “There are a lot of changes I’ve made, and a lot still to come,” the Delaware Area Career Cen­ter senior said. He is tran­si­tion­ing from work­ing to attain his Eagle Scout award, which involved build­ing a chim­ney swift tower at a New Albany pre­serve, to work­ing as assis­tant Scout mas­ter. Once Alexan­der turned 18, he had to give up his senior patrol lead­er­ship position.

Hayes’ Hurley aims to help others through music

Senior year hasn’t hit Melissa Hur­ley yet. It is some­thing the Hayes High School senior said she is thank­ful for as she does not want to slack off. But senior year has already seen the clo­sure of some things for Melissa — march­ing band sea­son is over as is bowl­ing sea­son. Though there are ample music oppor­tu­ni­ties yet in the remain­der of the school year that Melissa will be involved in. There is pit to play in for the upcom­ing musi­cal, “Legally Blonde,” and also state and dis­trict con­tests for orches­tra where she plays trum­pet, and con­cert band where she plays French horn. Melissa also plays trum­pet in jazz band, so there are lots of prac­tices in her schedule.

BV’s Green is the consummate team player

Kevan Green has already learned many valu­able life lessons. The Buck­eye Val­ley senior plays quar­ter­back for the Barons and was pleased they had a respectable final sea­son with a record of 6–4, earn­ing sec­ond team all con­fer­ence. He admit­ted the record his junior year was not quite as good at 4–6.

Big Walnut’s Stayton personifies service above self

Debat­ing var­i­ous career paths, Jes­sica Stay­ton deter­mined that all her pref­er­ences were either related to sci­ence or peo­ple. “I really enjoy peo­ple. Talk­ing things over, help­ing to deal with emo­tions,” the Big Wal­nut senior said of her deci­sion to major in psy­chol­ogy. And while she has not ruled out the pos­si­bil­ity of research, she thinks she would pre­fer to work directly with people.
