
Hayes High School senior Andie Moore will be heading south to Ohio University this fall to begin studying informational graphics and page design. She would like eventually to work for a non-profit organization, potentially in an area that focuses on the environment

Initially considering dentistry as a calling, Buckeye Valley senior Rob Patzke has decided to take a different career path. He first considered changing his career goal after shadowing a surgeon, resulting in an interest on oral surgery, which led Rob to go so far as to be awake during his own wisdom tooth extraction.

While he is considering a career as a heart surgeon, Oliver Wang may ultimately seek another way to save lives. His dream is to someday open a clinic in a location where vaccinations save lives. “It’s a different kind of thing,” he said on the impact of saving lives through a clinic as compared to being a surgeon.

Alexander Jokerst’s senior year is going pretty well. “There are a lot of changes I’ve made, and a lot still to come,” the Delaware Area Career Center senior said. He is transitioning from working to attain his Eagle Scout award, which involved building a chimney swift tower at a New Albany preserve, to working as assistant Scout master. Once Alexander turned 18, he had to give up his senior patrol leadership position.

Senior year hasn’t hit Melissa Hurley yet. It is something the Hayes High School senior said she is thankful for as she does not want to slack off. But senior year has already seen the closure of some things for Melissa — marching band season is over as is bowling season. Though there are ample music opportunities yet in the remainder of the school year that Melissa will be involved in. There is pit to play in for the upcoming musical, “Legally Blonde,” and also state and district contests for orchestra where she plays trumpet, and concert band where she plays French horn. Melissa also plays trumpet in jazz band, so there are lots of practices in her schedule.

Kevan Green has already learned many valuable life lessons. The Buckeye Valley senior plays quarterback for the Barons and was pleased they had a respectable final season with a record of 6–4, earning second team all conference. He admitted the record his junior year was not quite as good at 4–6.

Debating various career paths, Jessica Stayton determined that all her preferences were either related to science or people. “I really enjoy people. Talking things over, helping to deal with emotions,” the Big Walnut senior said of her decision to major in psychology. And while she has not ruled out the possibility of research, she thinks she would prefer to work directly with people.
