Flu leads county to change sick day policy

At the advice of medical officials concerned that H1N1 could strain the nation’s medical resources, Delaware County commissioners on Monday voted to temporarily relax the sick day policy for county employees who are exhibiting flu-like symptoms.

The biggest change affects requirements for a doctors note for employees who miss more than three days. Under the new policy, supervisors are permitted to waive medical documentation requirements for these employees if the situation merits it. The policy encourages employees to stay home to care for family members who are sick with flu-like illnesses; employees are also able to qualify for sick time if they are taking an immediate family member to get a flu shot.... Cont'd
