The local American Red Cross chapter will receive a portion of proceeds from an event next week at the Black Wing Shooting Center.

The center is hosting its “Summer Blast” from July 28 through Aug. 2.

The Red Cross will benefit from events on Friday, July 31, when a free Steel Creek concert and hog roast dinner are planned.

At the Friday event, the Red Cross will also have information on its courses and opportunities for the community to join efforts to canvass communities with high rates of fires and to install smoke alarms.

The funding from Black Wing will go into Red Cross’ “Project Prepare” funds, according to a Red Cross spokeswoman.
