Two Delaware County residents are among the candidates in the Miss and Ms. Marion Popcorn Festival competitions this Saturday, as part of Marion’s upcoming Popcorn Festival.
Competing are Hunter Boyce of Delaware and Vanessa Callis of Ashley.
Boyce, competing for Miss Marion Popcorn Festival, is the daughter of Sarah and Ron Tucker of Delaware and a graduate of Hayes High School. She is attending Hocking College, majoring in EMT/paramedic. Her talent is singing.
Callis, competing for Ms. Marion Popcorn Festival, is a stay-at-home mother.
The 35th annual Miss Marion Popcorn Scholarship Program will be held Saturday at River Valley High School. Also crowned that night will be Ms. Marion Popcorn Festival. The events will run simultaneously and begin at 7 p.m.
Four Miss Marion Popcorn Festival applicants will compete in talent, interview, evening wear, popcorn wear (an outfit that salutes popcorn) and an onstage question. The winner will receive a $1,000 scholarship, crown, banner and prize package. Three runners-up will receive scholarships, banners and a prize package.
Eight contestants in the Ms. Marion Popcorn Festival group will be judged in evening wear, popcorn wear, interview and onstage question. A winner and four runners-up will be selected. The winner will receive a cash prize, crown, banner and prize package. Runners-up will receive prize packages.
Both Miss and Ms. 2015 Marion Popcorn Festival pageant winners will be highlighted on the festival’s main stage, take part in the festival parade, and represent the Marion Popcorn Festival at local and statewide events throughout the coming year.
The Marion Popcorn Festival is the largest popcorn festival in the world with an annual attendance estimated in excess of 250,000 over the three-day festival. Main stage entertainment for 2015 includes “Straight On: Heart Tribute Band” on Thursday, Sept. 10; country star Rodney Atkins on Friday, Sept. 11; and rock band Warrant on Saturday, Sept. 12. All performances on the festival’s main stage begin at 8:30 p.m. and are free of charge.
Other events include the Popcorn Parade with more than 300 units, a popcorn cooking contest, a fine art show, crafts, Popcorn 5000 five-kilometer run, Popcorn 100 bike tour and the Community Showcase Stage Hometown Talent Stage.
