Delaware police are still investigating an incident Monday morning when a car struck a man lying in the road. The man was pronounced dead when emergency personnel arrived.

His identity has not yet been revealed by police.

Delaware Police Capt. Adam Moore reported that at around 4:30 a.m. Monday the Ohio State Highway Patrol transferred a call to the police department about a traffic collision involving a car striking a pedestrian on Central Avenue, just west of Elizabeth Street.

Moore said a female driver traveling west on Central struck a man lying in the road. Police and medics arrived minutes later and they pronounced the man dead, Moore said.

Moore said the man’s cause of death and how he came to be in the road are under investigation.

Moore said Monday afternoon that police had confirmed the man’s identity and were attempting to notify his next of kin. Moore said police would release the man’s identity after notification had been made.

No charges have been filed in connection with the incident at this time.

The Delaware County Coroner’s Office will conduct an autopsy, Moore said.

The incident remains under investigation.
